Flight chaos...

Today, a bad thing happened.
I stand up all night to make sure that I could get to the airport on time. Then I check in, got the ticket smoothly. When I am about to log my luggage...the staff of ANA told me: "Sorry MS, we can not give you the ticket."

"...what!?"

"'I checked your passport and found out that you don't have American VISA."

"...eh...but the place I am going is Montreal...."

"Yes, but even you just transfer via US, you need a VISA..."

"...noooo waaaaay...." (What a sudden. What a shock!)

"Sorry about that...I checked the requirement for Taiwanese...It seems you can use ESTA after 11/1....but today...is 10/8....what you plan to do in Canada? Tourism?"

"...Yes...I know the news that we (Taiwanese) are suited for ESTA since Nov....well, but I don't know that I still need a VISA for just passing by US."

"Well, who told you it's fine without VISA is OK? Travel Agency???"

"Eh...no...they didn't even bother to ask me the status of my passport or VISA..."

"...!?"

"I was concerned too...so I asked my prof...he said if I just transfer via US...it shouldn't need a VISA...oh...I am going with my prof. and attending an academic conference together."

"...Oh.......well....I am sorry but it seems you still need one. We can not give you the ticket...even we do, you will be returned from the airport in US...so we can not do that...."

"Yeah...I got it.........................Do you have any solution options for this...?"

"Eh...today is national holiday...even you rushed to Tokyo Immigration Office...you can not run through the process until tomorrow...and even you did, the process took days....I don't think you can make it before the conference anyway....Sorry to tell you this...."

"Do you have any other solution...? Don't ANA have some flights that are not passing by US but still heading for Canada?"

"I am afraid no...ANA doesn't have any plains for Canada not passing by US...Maybe you can try Canada Airline...they start after 1:30PM..."

"OK...can you give me details of those flights?"

"Sure....but...even you booked a flight taking off today...it would be extremely expensive..."

"....uh.........I guess so....anyway...please give me the information. I can look and consider after then..."

"Sure..."

"Thank you so much..."

After this, my prof came to the counter I was at. We started a frustrating and intense trip...

Now this is what all I got today....from 5:40AM to 3:30PM…..The time I stand in front of my house door is 7:00PM.

I got to Narita airport at 8:40AM....and spent all my morning and noon for this chaos....
I only got some comfort:

1. My prof just happened to be at the airport...He always arrives airport pretty early. Even he got cold...he companied with me until the time he should be around the gate and he was trying his best to figure out any solutions to help me out.

2. My anut was really nice for helping me, no matter the fact that she was aroused by my phone call. She almost contacted the person who might have magic to book or change my ticket. And she checked almost every website she could check....Airplain companies, Taiwan's Department of Foriegn Affair, Taiwan's economic and trade office in Japan....whatever.

3. The guy works in Taiwan's economic and trade office in Japan was so nice...even today is national holidy in Japan, even the hompage says people shouldn't dial the emergency call for VISA...(the only case you can call it is...if you bumped into accident or somethings like that...) He gave me all the details for Taiwanese passport and VISA issue for Canada as possible.

4. The staff of travel agency of American Express were so nice...no matter how many times I called and asked them to do anything they can do to fix this situation. ( My prof thinks they mostly should be responsible for this mess...not only because they didn't comfirm if I was OK flight via US without a damn VISA...well, I was stupid enough too.)

5. My dad is awesome...I was so touched and cried...After I finally contacted and told him this bad news...I said that the staff of AE gave me the most possible option that I get refund of my old ticket and book a new one of Canada Airline. The flight is taking off on 10/10 and via Toronto. The problem is that it costs about 90,000 NTD.......After I told my dad this, he quickly said "OK!...Don't be sad...not a big deal...right? Calm down. It's fine. See you then in Japan." OMG....I have no idea what can I do to express my gratitudes and return him....I want to make huge money...really....

Anyway, I went through this ridiculously chaotic day…I didn't get mad or be stressed out today. Nice…My prof says once he was stopped by Brazil police at immgration gate….and was returned to Japan….that was a 20 hours of flying time!!! He worried about his VISA so he even go to the consulate to make sure it was OK. The person in charge told him it's totally fine. It ended up in that way…really pissed him off. Compared with that, at least I didn't use the ticket and I have chance to fix it….I am so grateful to everything right now.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out….Thousand thanks, Grazie Mille. Really thank you. Although during all of this, I didn't prey…(I forgot it, although I and my prof talked about it. XD) I bet my aunts and grandma did. So I thank God, really, as a former Christian should do.

Now my plan is going there on 10/10 and leave on 10/15. (My prof says that I am free for the next seminar…this should be the last thing I should concern.) Now I want to prepare all thing carefully. Not in rush. Stay calm. And to look what I can do in rest of the days I spend there by myself.

It's a shame I am going to miss some speech looks interesting to me……..at least I learned something more than that by this experience. My loss today: 6000 JPY for round bus ticket between my place and Narita….extra money for food in the airport…(Don't count the flight ticket. It would drive me crazy once this idea upon to me…I hope I can get a much cheaper hotel reservation to repair the loss of flight ticket….)

I am gonna stop here and try to do something meaningful.
To practice my poor English on blog is a way of learning though.

Ciao Ciao
